As children’s teeth are still in their formative years, children’s dentistry places a strong focus on prevention.
Regular trips to our dental practice can help acclimatise your child to the dental environment, making them more receptive toward treatments.
When should I take my child to the dentist for their first check-up?
Your child should visit a dentist when their first tooth appears, or no later than their first birthday.
What should I use to clean my baby’s teeth?
Any soft-bristled toothbrush with a small head that is designed for infants should be used at least once a day with water. Preferably before bedtime.
Does my child need a mouthguard for sports?
You may believe that mouthguards are only necessary for children who play contact sports such as, football, rugby or karate. However, even children who participate in sports such as cricket, or mountain biking can benefit from wearing a protective mouthguard.
Ask your dentist about a customised mouthguard for your child.
Should my child get sealants?
Dental sealants are a type of thin, plastic coating that is applied on the chewing surfaces of teeth (usually on the back teeth) to stop tooth decay from setting in.
The sealant works by bonding quickly into the uneven grooves of the teeth, creating a protective shield.
Children can get dental sealants on their permanent molars and premolars once these teeth come in, if needed.
